Whartscape Outlook: Day 3 Sat. Current Space

SATURDAY JULY 24
CURRENT SPACE
12pm – 10:30pm

MUST SEE!
Lightning Bolt
Ever since I listen to Hypermagic Mountain I have wanted to see these guys live. I think I missed them when they played in Phili a couple months back, but now we got them in bmore for Whartscape and it should be an intensely fun show. The drummer for this band is amazing to watch, and even though they are from RI, they have the whole Wham City play on the floor thing down.

Arab on the Radar
Along the same lines as Lightning Bolt, Arab on the Radar play chaotic noise rock with a spastic drummer, also from RI. A lot of face melting going on early on.

The Convocation Of
Heavy psychedelic rock music that doesn’t disappoint, think Hawkwind. I always tout The Entrance on our site, well this was formed by George France, Tonie Joy, and now The Entrance frontman Guy Blakeslee. After Guy Blakeslee left for The Entrance in 2002, the Convocation moved on in 2005 and spews forth some great psychedelic music along the same lines. Their recordings are limited, but their was an EP released last year.

Ed Schrader
Very funny, very entertaining artist. Last time I saw him he was just banging a drum and shouting out some hilarious dirges, not sure if he has expanded upon that since or not, but either way it will be an entertaining act on the day.

No Age
A ton of hype has been handed to this duo that is part of the LA underground scene along side another Whartscape artist, HEALTH. They have been a P4k favorite since their inception. I’ve never seen them and probably haven’t given them the listen they deserve, so I’ll probablk take thsi chance to see wha tthe hype is all about.
No Age “Sleeper Hold”

Small Sur
I’ve heard Small Sur on multiple occasions (the best was in Bob’s house last year) and love Bob’s work (and the beard as well). Prepare yourself for a dose of dream-folk.
