Whartscape Outlook 2010: Day 1 (Thur. 7/22/10)

Being the last year of Whartscape, everyone who loves music should be going to this thing (And I thought the Festival was just gaining ground). After a great Artscape weekend it is nice to have another summer weekend with a great festival going on nearby in Bmore. Here are some picks for Thursday. Anyone I leave out that you can recommend and why, put in the comments.

THURSDAY JULY 22
CHARLES THEATER
4pm – 12am

As far as Thursday goes, show up if you like the video, photography, and performance art (which I’m sure you’ll see everywhere, just less bands playing on the Thur.) This night is not so much geared towards the music but towards the video artists (obviously.. it’s at a movie theatre). There are a lot of good sites to see at the Charles on Thursday for Whartscape, it’s one of those things where you just have to go. Unless your a MICA student or regularly involved in the Wham City scene then your not gonna immediately know a lot of these artists, but that’s what makes it great. However, with Ian Mackeye tipping it off and Santa Dads playing two sets( a quarter of the way through and closing), it looks to be an interesting night.

Ian Mackaye
If You don’t know who Ian Mackeye is, then you probably shouldn’t go to Whartscape (or maybe you should). Pretty good way to get it started off. Frontman for Minor Threat and Fugazi and considered a pioneer in the Hardcore Punk scene. If you never seen American Hardcore then this is the week to do it.

Daniel Higgs
One of the few musical acts on Thursday. Going along with the DC hardcore music scene we have Baltimore’s own hardcore punk repesenting with Lungfish with the vocalist Daniel Higgs doing his solo “folk” act. I am really looking forward to this.

Imaginary Company

Santa Dads (Whartscape 07′)
A Whartscape staple. It’s a good band to see as your wandering throughout Charles this Thursday.
