We’re Alive!
You may (or may not) have noticed we haven’t been posting much lately, and as much as we would like to say our excuse is we are on some remote island sipping on drinks with umbrellas and unpronounceable fruits in them…we are actually locked up in a dark baltimore apartment working on the inner workings of the site.
We promise we are almost done, and it will make the site way better. So please bear with us. In the meantime, here is some news, mp3’s etc. that have caught our ear lately.
News
Either Portishead hates performing their new album Three live (only one show in the US) or it has lit a fire under them, because the news is they are done touring and already working on their next album.
Much respected music blog, Fluxblog, hates the resurgence of all the new shoegaze bands. I am on the fence. Bu it’s hard to argue with his “stop regurgitating old genre’s and come up with something new” stance.
Death Cab has a new video.
Music Spotlight
Eureka Birds:
This Baltimore band was brought to my attention from Baltimore Sun writer Sam Sessa, and I thank him dearly for that. If I had to make a comparison – which is the easiest way, unless you just click the blue arrow to listen for yourself – I would say a darker, more instrumentally eclectic Ben Folds-ish sound. Which, for me, is a big complement. Their debut album comes out sometime this month.
Eureka Birds – Oh! My Dear (MP3)
Eureka Birds – Goodbye Space and Time (MP3)
Tour Dates:
Jul 9 The Red and Black DC
Jul 12 Scarey Studios Baltimore
Aug 14 Charm City Art Space Baltimore
Aug 20 Iota w/ Sgt Dunbar and the Hobo Banned Arlington
Aug 29 the Delancey NYC
Aug 30 Valentines Albany
Misc. Music I’ve been enjoying
Kleerup – Until We Bleed (with Lykke Li) (MP3)
Sounds like: Lykke Li singing with The Chromatics or Junior Boys.
Myspace.
Neil Halsted – Paint a Face (MP3)
Sounds like: A more upbeat Doveman or Iron & Wine. He’s also the guy behind Mojave 3.
Myspace.
Mogwai – The Sun Smells Too Loud (MP3)
Sounds Like: Good Mogwai.
Myspace.
