Van She Release “V”

Ever since Van She came out with their single “Kelly”, an amazingly catchy homage to the 80’s sound, I have been waiting for more. Last weekend Modular Records released their debut V, and while not exactly anything new, I was surprised at how many songs were much more than just catchy 80’s-wanna-be songs. These songs actually had something more to them. Given, there’s still pop-dance tracks on the album, which doesn’t bother me – they aren’t exactly trying to be the next My Bloody Valentine – but there are also songs that go a bit deeper, with more layers, which keeps things interesting throughout the album.

Not unlike their label-mates Cut Copy, this isn’t anything mind blowing, but it’s fun and nostalgic, yet fresh in it’s own way. Just looking at their album cover shows they don’t take themselves too seriously.
