Two Good End of The Year Albums

I keep attempting to write up my end of the year list but keep getting distracted by some albums that i am just coming across or just came out. And then I have to listen to them for at least a week to see if they rank up there for the year, at this rate you might be seeing a 2008 QL end of year list around February.
First off, the new A.C. Newman album, Get Guilty, is outstanding (it officially comes out January 20th). The opening chords of the opening track (posted below) have been sticking in my head all day, and the entire album is full of some excellent songwriting and catchy choruses. I am on an AC Newman lovefest right now, the guy has something all his own. Another bonus is that Neko Case sings in harmony on half the tracks.

Secondly, Jedi Mind Tricks – A History of Violence. This year, for me, has really lacked a lot of good rap or hip-hop albums. Their was the new Roots album that I regretfully haven’t had a chance to get into all that much, the Del album as well as RZA’s Digi Snacks were pretty disappointing. This one hit me right off the back. I don’t really know too much about Jedi Mind Tricks, I think I tried to get into them a few years back and it was a little too militant for my tastes, but the beats and hooks on this album are just great. Most notably on the second half of the album with the “Fantasia-like” opening on “Terror” and the Carl Orff‘ish sampling on the following “Butcher Knife Bloodbath”
I realize this post is all over the place, I think this is the first and last post to ever have AC Newman and Jedi Mind Tricks on the same page.
