Tune Yards “Sunlight”, “Hatari”
I got into work this morning and found out that I missed a really good/interesting show at the Metro Gallery last night with Tune-Yards. Tune-Yards is a girl from New England who recorded her album with free audio software and a mic, so needless to say the album is pretty lo-fi.. but not in a way where “i’m doing this because lo-fi is cool” but more in a “i want to make this album on the cheap” kind of way. It’s not well-produced lo-fi, it’s just straight up lo-fi. However, it sounds like something more from a tropical environment than NE. She had gotten some pretty good blog press earlier this year when the album came out, but I guess it just kind of slipped by for most people. Anyways, the album Bird-Brains is out and it’s worth the listen.
