The Knife Release Opera “Tomorrow, In a Year”, Giveaway MP3
The Knife are set to release an Opera called “Tomorrow, in a Year” digitally Feb 2nd, and in stores March 9th. In anticipation of that they are giving away the first single “Colouring of Pigeons” if you give them you’re email address.
The project is a collaboration with Mt. Sims and Planningtorock and “based on Charles Darwin and his book ‘On the Origin of the Species’.” It’s a double disk album and was performed live in Stockholm September 2nd, with more performances coming this month in Europe. Looks like between Fever Ray and this opera the band has been pretty busy.
The single itself isn’t really a single at all (not surprising considering it’s the knife), clocking in at 11 minutes, and starts with organic, almost tribal drumming accompanied with various operatic vowel “chirping”, only to lead into the familiar vocals of The Knife’s Karin Dreijer Andersson. Unlike previous songs from the knife/fever ray, the use of electronics seem unsurprisingly minimal, considering the subject matter, but work just as atmospherically/creepy as any of their previous work. Vampire weekend this aint. And that’s fine by me (and that’s not a slight on VW).
