After putting out one of the best, most underrated albums of the year (imho) , and possibly their darkest material yet, the Walkmen loosen things up a little bit with a great cover of Buckingham’s ‘Holiday Road’, which I think most people know from National Lampoon’s Vacation.
Fordham Universities public radio station (The Alternate Side) had a great in-studio performance with the Walkmen, all captured on video. Here is one of the tracks below, youc an watch the entire thing here and listen to the interview with quetions submitted through twitter.
This weekend was great, but semi-exhausting and filled with The Walkmen’s new album You & Me. Saturday night it was played while at a friend’s house party out in the middle of the woods in the pool, under the stars (and rain). And once again sunday night, dockside in the bay, after a hysterically-botched attempt of boating out to camp and prepare for my first attempt at crabbing. There doesn’t seem to be a situation that this album doesn’t sound great; although the later in the night the better.
If you look at our handy baltimore/dc calendar you will notice you can catch them this saturday at the 9:30 club in DC. I won’t be able to make it as i will be back in ohio for a wedding and the Browns season opener, but if you go please add a comment letting us know how it was.
Pitchfork recently caught up with them to play a couple songs and do an interview. Here is them performing an amazing version of “In The New Year”, my favorite song on the album. I also highly suggest the interview, where lead singer Hamilton Leithauser reacts to being informed about “green touring” with “that sounds like a load of shit to me”. Ha.
German Expressionist films rule…The Walkmen’s “In The New Year” rules, abstract images thrown over both rules even more. Thanks P4k for this sweet video.
