Sally Shapiro – Save Your Love (Lovelock Remix) MP3

remixescover

As i wrote about a bit ago, Sally Shapiro is coming out with a remix EP of their wonderful 2009 release My Guilty Pleasure.  Johan (the 2nd half of Sally Shapiro) was nice enough to send me the Lovelock remix of “Save Your Love”, which slows down the tempo a bit and turns up the “sexy quotient”.  Really digging this.

Sally Shapiro: “My Guilty Pleasure” Remix EP, Megamix Download

PBRD1038_72

Sally Shapiro is going to release a remix EP of her solid 2009 album My Guilty Pleasure (which grew on me exponentially), similar to what she did with her previous album Disco Romance.  Those tapped for remix duties are: CFCF, Bottin, Lovelock, FM Attack, Bogdan Irkuk, Bostro Pesopeo, Boat Club and Low Motion Disco.

The “EP” is actually 8 tracks, covering most of the album, and to help promote it they are offering a pretty sweet 10 minute “Megamix Preview” for download.  I intially thought it would sound like an incomplete, “fast forward” version of the EP, but it’s actually mixed well and stands on it’s own pretty well.  It comes out april 20th.

Check it out:

Video: Sally Shapiro’s “Miracle”

I know, we are teetering on the edge of becoming an all out Sally Shapiro fan site, but humor me.  Here is her video for “Miracle”, which unsurprisingly involves a recently broken up couple and a wistful young girl.  My favorite part is the semi-cheesy reverse-silhouette of the ex-boyfriend’s head with the video of the girl in the background.  DAGGER!

New Music Tuesday: Sally Shapiro, Mew + Free Johan Agebjörn Mix

my_guilty_pleasure-sally_shapiro_480

Two of my favorite albums of the year are officially out today:  Sally Shapiro’s My Guilty Pleasure and Mew’s No More Stories…

On first listen to Guilty Pleasure i was kind of skeptical, while it was certainly catchy and still had very much of a Sally Shapiro “sound” to it, the themes were almost opposite from Disco Romance.  Where her debut touched on the awesome, almost ignorance-is-bliss, aspects of the beginning stages of a relationship, Guilty Pleasure finds her on the other end…the end where things didn’t quite work out as planned in those early stages and all almost seems lost…and feels especially lonely.

After listening to the album more though, it’s those more serious/somber themes  that make me enjoy it even more than Disco Romance.  I guess it’s a more heavy album from an emotional standpoint, which took a bit to grow on me, but now i appreciate even more for it.  The beauty of Shapiro is that she can take these almost heartbreaking tracks and make them sound beautifully full of hope.

Also out today is Mew’s No More Stories, which goes the opposite route of the poppy Shapiro, and heads deep into psychedelic prog territory.  I’ve talked about how much we like this album, so all i can say now is we highly recommend it.  1st half = catchy rock songs with great licks, 2nd half = deeper down the rabbit hole into more experimental areas of sonic adventure (with even some slower songs thrown in there).  That’s the quick review.

BONUS: Sally Shapiro’s producer/beat master Johan Agebjörn just come out with a sweet italo-disco mix for FACT Magazine that you can download for FREE here.  I listened to it on my drive home yesterday and it’s really really good.

UPDATE:  Turns out Sally Shapiro is also giving away another track off the album, “Dying in Africa”, which is a cover of Nicolas Makelberge’s 2006 version.

New Sally Shapiro Video, MP3: “Love In July”

Here’s the new video for “Love in July”, the latest single off of Sally Shapiro’s upcoming album My Guilty Pleasure.  I think Pixar might have a copyright infringement case on their hands here…only in this case the special effects are really cheesy…but cheesy in a way that only the swedes can make it work.  You crazy swedes you.  As Sally describes: ” In this music video a whale and a fish fall in love, get surrounded by ice, but the sun of July melts the ice and makes love possible.”

Like i said, you lovable, crazy swedes you.

I’ve been listening to an early copy of My Guilty Pleasure and I have to say that i think Shapiro fans will dig it; maybe not as good as Disco Romance, as it’s less of a dancy affair, but still really good for late summer nights.  Not sure what that means, but it makes sense to me.  Think less Annie and more Chromatics style on this one.
