My thoughts on this first are…dammit…for not living in LA. i was a big fan of Eraser and have always wanted to see it played live. He did a great live version on the Henry Rollins show when it first came out (video below). My next thought was that it’s interesting to see he’s doing these dates in LA. This is the guy who made a big deal about limiting his carbon foot print for radiohead’s last tour, and now he’s traveling across the ocean and US to play two shows? This leads me to think there’s more shows to come stateside. Here’s hoping its true.

Radiohead brings 30 thousand to Brazil (pics)

SPIN has some really great pics of Radiohead playing in Sao Paul on March 30th with Kraftwerk.  It’s really great looking at these pics while I sit here at a desk in front of a computer screen on a very gray Baltimore day. FML

Thom Yorke Writing Songs for ‘Terminator’ Sndtrk?

The grammy’s suck, but the one good thing about them this year, that none of the mainstream media noticed, was the radiohead performance with the USC Trojan band (which is no longer available on youtube).  I woke up the day after to hear how great coldplay or katie perry was, but no mention of how great radiohead was. And really grammy’s , Robert Plant & Allsion Krauss had the best album of the year? Not that the album was terrible, but come on, get with it.

But now NME is reporting on something that can’t be affected by Christian Bale’s outrage, Thom Yorke may be writing some songs for the new terminator movie.  A movie already being scored by the great Danny Elfman.  So even if the movie sucks , you can at least get some musical inspiration from it.

Most Fans Paid 0$ for In Rainbows… well Duh.

What did you expect would happen if you offered your album up for free?  Probably the same thing that would happen if you didn’t.. those same people who would pay $0 would just torrent it. I’m sure people even still “illegally” downloaded the free album from some other site, instead of just paying nothing for it ont he Radiohead site. It’s so hard to break old habits. But according to NME, Radiohead still made out better than Hail to The Thief.

According to Music Ally, Jane Dyball, head of business affairs at Warner Chappell (the publishing company that oversaw the release of ‘In Rainbows’), refused to reveal the average price people were downloading the album for.

However, Dyball, set to speak about the release at the Iceland Airwaves conference later, explained that Warner Chappell and Radiohead’s management were monitoring the average price daily, and was prepared to cancel the download facility if the average price became too low.

The download facility was taken down after three months, and the album went to Number One in the UK and USA after being physically released.

New Radiohead video: “Reckoner”

Radiohead’s commentary on the video via deadairspace:

here is one of my favourite video things that has ever happened
for Reckoner it is, the result of somebody entering a competition to make an animation to one of the tunes on IN RAINbows.

so we asked them whether it was ok to make it the official one we use as it goes with the song so well. they said yes.

yah think?!

Radiohead Live at Santa Barbara Bowl on NPRMusic

A quick heads up, NPR Music will have a live recording of a great Radiohead show posted at noon today EST.

NPR.org, September 5, 2008 – When I think of the best concerts I’ve seen, I always flash back to Pink Floyd in early 1972. Almost two years before the band released what would become Dark Side of the Moon, Pink Floyd performed the entire suite of songs to the amazement of us all. We’d never heard any of the songs (then titled Eclipse: A Piece for Assorted Lunatics), and with its quadrophonic sound, it remains the most massive musical surprise I’ve experienced.

Radiohead’s show at the Santa Barbara Bowl came as close for musicianship and creativity as any show I’ve seen in 37 years. I’ve seen a lot of shows.

Radiohead: Live Webscast Tonight

Earlier today on radiohead’s blog, Dead Air Space, there was an archaic post titled “might come in handy” informing everyone to make sure they have the right video players ready to go. At first i thought it peculiar, but now i am getting information that they will be web-casting tonights show live, so it makes perfect sense. Sah-weet. Show is allegedly supposed to start at 12PM EST.

Sidestory: In regards to their Neil Young cover the other day in LA, i got this great story from my friend in the front lines from the previous night’s show:

I was at the show in Auburn when they first played it last Wednesday. They started with Faust Arp, and Thom screwed up the first verse. He started it again, and somehow ended up playing the riff from “Tell Me Why” (which I immediately recognized, of course). I was in the front row screaming my lungs out for Thom to actually SING the song, but he couldn’t remember all the lyrics so he kept getting discouraged. Jonny was doing pretty well on the accompanying guitar though, so they kept it going for nearly half the song. Then Phil came out from the stage wings and dropped an American $1 bill at Thom’s feet. They all busted out laughing and that was the end. They launched back into Faust Arp, and Thom looked straight at me, shrugged his shoulders and stuck his tongue out the side of his mouth like, “Oh well, I tried!”

Here is the video of that moment:
