Stream New Build (Hot Chip offshoot) Track “False Thing”

Hrmpht. I had no idea that Hot Chip has an offshoot band called New Build featuring Felix Martin and Al Doyle (from lcd). Nor did i know they even came out with a full-length back in 2012. Not sure if that album is any good, but this new single is, so i’ll be sure to check out said album.

“False Thing” features a slick weird disco-electro vibe with equally cool Pulp-meets-Depeche Mode vocals. Did i mention it also has a SICK bass line that keeps things moving through the whole song. (listen to more tracks from the forthcoming album HERE)

MishMash: Tallest Man on Earth, Tame Impala, Hot Chip, and More

NPR is streaming Tallest Man on Earth’s concert at the 9:30 club from this past weekend. It’s been on the site for a few days, but finally they have put up the audio. It’s a great show and TMOE does a nice little cover of Paul Simon’s “Mother and Child Reunion” before transitioning into “The Wild Hunt”.

Tonight in Baltimore: Arboretum playing Metro Gallery, The Books playing Rams Head Live, and Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax are at 21st Mariner Arena (*devil horns*)

Prefix has an interview with one of my favorite Shoegaze Bands “Chapterhuse” on their upcoming reunion tour.

Check out Gayngs Daytrotter session.

School of Seven Bells get a serene remix of “Heart is Strange” by Active Child.

Hot Chip has a really good new song out, “Didn’t Know What Love Was”, that they made for Converse. Download it here.

If you haven’t heard it yet, make sure you listen to the new track from Brian Eno. It grows on you with every listen.

One of our favorite albums of the year Innerspeaker by Tame Imapala has a video now for ‘Lucidity’

Not only is the new Deerhunter album great, there is a remix by Diplo & Lunice of one of the best songs of the year “Helicoptor”.

Music Notes: Hot Chip, Spoon, Editors

spoon

Next year is looking to be a pretty epic year for releases, with many “established”" (and much loved) bands putting out records:  LCD Soundsystem, !!!, Hot Chip, Vampire Weekend, Spoon, etc …

Speaking of, Spoon’s new album Transference will be out January 19th and you can stream the first song from it, “Written in Reverse” HERE.  Sounds pretty…well, spoony:  foot-tap-inducing guitar riffs, witty/catchy lyrics, and a nice chugging rythm section.

Next up will be Hot Chip, when they release One Life Stand on February 8th (just in time for v-day, you funny guys you).  They previously streamed “Take it in” over at pitchfork (pretty good, if not a little more down-tempo than their normal stuff), and now are offering their title track for stream over at their myspace page (a more dancey number with a great funky guitar riff, and of course the clever lyrics). I prefer “Take it in”, but fans of Hot Chip won’t be disappointing by either.

The Editors have a new album coming out as well and will be touring in 2010 to support it.  I’ve kind of lost interest in this band since their debut, but I know they put on a pretty good show, so if you’re interested, they’ll be at the 9:30 club on Feb. 21st.

Totally unrelated: I just finished The Beatles anthology DVD’s after seeing McCartney this past spring, and i highly recommend it to anyone who’s a Beatles fan or is looking for a thorough primer on them.  Some awesome previously unreleased material/footage on it that is worth the time.  Here is a sample of them talking about how the idea of Sgt. Peppers started.
