Italians Do It Better: Solid Gold Compilation

Piggy-backing on my last post, which featured some blissed-out disco goodness, record label Italians Do It Better, home to some of the more recent italo/space disco bands such as Chromatics and Glass Candy, recently released a compilation called Solid Gold.  The labels description is:

Solid Gold is a collection of some early IDIB 12″s, most of which are out of print. Tracks were carefully selected and programmed by our own Johnny Jewel. This is not a mix cd. It is full tracks as they appear on the original 12″s. A compilation of sorts…

This entire compilation is the brainchild of Johnny [Jewel] (production/beat wizard behind both Glass Candy and Chromatics), and he put a lot of time into the tracklisting. We hope you enjoy it. Its perfect driving music.

I bought it a couple weeks back for a whole 5 BUCKS and have really been enjoying it, especially after the sun sets and the heat of the day starts to disappear into the twilight.  I highly recommend it and here is one of the reasons why (with vocals by Feist):

Down the Rabbit Hole: Italo Disco

It makes perfect sense that eventually my musical journey would lead me to Italo Disco, specifically space disco. I mean i love dance music, specifically dance music that is heavy on synthesizers. My recent interest in italo disco started when i first heard Sally Shapiro, Glass Candy, and Chromatics’ take on the genre. Earlier this summer i was stuck in a dub phase, so it makes perfect sense that the transition from spaced out reggae to spaced out disco would be next.
