On Rotation: While we were gone edition
While we were out at coachella (i swear that will be the last time i use that word in a while) and recovering, we got some emails of some pretty good bands. So in an effort to be efficient…here they all are in one post.
Now, Now Every Children – Everyone You Know (MP3)
We first wrote about this Minneapolis-based band back in Februrary when they released their first EP Not One But Two. This song comes off said second EP, In The City, and does a good job of getting us excited for the forthcoming full-length album, due sometime this month.

These Modern Socks – Where I Came From (MP3)The press release says “their sophomore release Picking a Lock at the Speed of Light is a concept album about taking a girl to space”. When i read that i said to myself “please let this be good”. This band is ALSO from Minneapolis. The song starts off with a simple keyboard line, then, without notice, blows up into a crazy star-wars-meets-crazy-carnival guitar line. Then the vocals start: “I got a lot more to live for…you never thought i did. You feel so bad that you didn’t want it…like i give a shit”. There is nothing better than a song about being pissed/bitter about someone from the opposite sex. Which is most songs, really. The album comes out May 23rd.

Sinkane – Autobahn (MP3)Part shoegaze, part psychedelic, and part movie score best describes this song, the 3rd “movement” off his debut album Color Voice (Out tomorrow, May 6th). Pretty cool stuff…would be interesting to hear it in the full context of the album.

The bands third album, Rest, is “nine (songs) composed over e-mail during the course of nine months by key members in New York, Chicago, Boston, DC and Richmond, VA.” Impressive use of the inter-web highway. Really great song that starts off with a mellow piano line and never deviates too far away from that, adding in some lulling strings, and soothing male/female harmonies. Perfect spring music. The album comes out May 13th.

[...] We wrote about Minneapolis’ Now, Now Every Children throughout the year as they put out various EP’s leading up to the release of their full-length. Now said LP, Cars, has been released on iTunes and is slated for physical release on February 10th. If the title track is any indication of how good the entire album is, and i think it will be since all of their EP’s were pretty solid, then i will be heading here to buy it ASAP. [...]
