The Bird and the Bee – I’m a Broken Heart
The subject matter might not be the best spring music, but the music certainly sounds it. This reminds me of what a girl version of Peter, Bjorn, and John might sound like. I really feel bad for this girl being “a broken heart”, she seems so sweet…who could do this to her? They are sure to pay. Great trumpet solo in the middle as well. Buy Here

Sun Kil Moon – Kentucky Woman
I love Mark Kozelek’s voice. He can sing anything and i think i would love it. perfectly soothing and relaxing, yet still able to gte across the lyrics of the song. He put out a modest mouse cover album a couple years back which i LOVED, but i guess i was in the minority. too bad, people are really missing out on this ex-Red House Painters front man. This song comes from a limited edition EP soundtrack of Elizabethtown. Buy Here

Jesu – Tired of Time
This song reminds me of how Secret Machines can have a ton of guitars in a song, but are still able to make it mellow and rolling. Despite the one-man-band being labeled a “drone doom band”, this song is quite relaxing…and…well…droney
. I love the marching band drums in the end, really ties it together. Jesu had a new album out this past february, but this is off of his 2005 self titled debut album. Buy Here.

The Morning Benders – Damnit Anna
This is a lot like Peter Bjorn & John, which is a little like the Beatles, which makes for some good hooks. It’s a short song but I like the tamborine, the basic bass line, the vocal melody that fits in snugly with the rythmic guitar. I probably won;t still be listening to this song in a week, but for now it’s a nice entry song into the spring. Buy Here

Miracle Fortress – Have You Seen In Your Dreams
I looked on their myspace page and they categorize themselves as Tropical/Rock, that’s kind of funny. This band is pretty light, I guess I am into some light songs right now because of the changing weather and listening to Arcade Fire and Modest Mouse too much recently. It is a good change of pace. You don’t have to think about it too much, which is ok sometimes. Buy Here

Casiotone for the Painfully Alone – When You Were Mine
A good minimalist song here with some call and repeat vocals. I love the name of the band (they actually use what sounds like a casiotone), I love the simplicity, and I love that it is a somewhat depressing song that still makes you want to bop around like everything is ok. The song is somewhat self-deprecating because of the music behind it, it could just as easily be a depressing folk song. Buy Here

Elk City – Loz Crusados
The title means “The Crossed Ones”. If that helps you enjoy the song then great, but with a voice like that, what’s not to like? She goes from mysterious to euphoric on the turn of a dime. The rest of their music is really good too from what I have heard. Buy Here
