Obligatory Fall Music Mix

My friends always joke about how much i link certain music to certain days/seasons/times-of-the-day, but i think it’s pretty valid. Not to say i can’t listen to that music if it isn’t in that specific environment but some music just seems better when it’s in the morning, or the spring, 3AM, etc.

Now that the leaves are falling off the trees and there has been a cosntant fog/mist the past 48 hours here in baltimore, i think we can officially say the dreary days of fall are upon us. Not the early days of fall, where the heat and humidity give way to more comfortable weekends with colorful trees and rediscovered cozy sweaters, but the “other side” of fall. Where the days are dark, the trees are becoming exponentially bare and the air much much cooler. It’s times like this that the following music seems to just “fit”:

Aimee Mann – Wise Up

The Arcade Fire – In The Backseat

Band of Horses The General Specific

Cat Power – The Party

Elliott Smith – Between the Bars

Elliott Smith – Talking to Mary (demo)

Jeff Buckley – Hallellujah

Jose Gonzales – Love Will Tear us Apart (live)

The National – About Today

Ryan Adams – Night Birds

Sufjan Stevens – To be Alone With You

Red House Painters – Have You Forgotten (live)

The Wrens – 13 Months in 6 minutes

  1. Great mix! Thank you! I also associate a lot of music with the seasons, and I’m glad you included a Ryan Adams song as Whiskeytown’s Pneumonia is some of my favorite Fall music.

  6. Oh, Cat Power just after Band of Horses, great. I really agree with that season/music stuff. Even more. The weather, each day, each hour put different songs in my headphones.

  9. You can never go wrong with Jeff Buckley’s cover of “Hallellujah”. Better even than Cohen’s original. BTW I tweeted your list.
