Mason Proper are touring with Cloud Cult, which instantly gets my attention. I’m glad it did because this song is really good. “Lock and Key” comes off their upcoming album, Olley Oxen Free (out Sept. 23rd).

This song has a great mix of instruments: jerky guitars, blissed out keyboards, plodding bass/piano line, and pulled together with some great vocals. I mention this because usually these sounds are part of totally different genre’s: the keyboards sound like something out of space-rock psychedelia, the guitars sound like something off of a jack white album, and the piano could easily be on a ryan adams album, but put them all together and it become something totally fresh and unique in its own right.
