Music Notes: New Beach House, Sleigh Bells, Elliott Smith doc …
GorillavsBear has a great new single from Baltimore’s own Beach House. I wouldn’t say i’m a super-fan of their previous albums, but always enjoyed them if the mood was right; that said, this sounds great…something i could (and will) listen to on repeat quite often. Can’t wait for the new album to come out (jan. 26th).
I’ve been really digging this band Sleigh Bells (along with the rest of blog-land) and Pretty Much Amazing has a thorough post on them with a good number of MP3’s. Think: guitars of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, vocals of Lykke Li, lo-fi production of The Go! Team, and beats of MIA. Warning: it’s loud and crunchy.
Here’s a 30 minute documentary on Elliott Smith made in 1988, titled Strange Parallel. (via largehearted boy)
Last but not least i thought i would mention that Drink Up Buttercup put on a great show last Tuesday at Zodiac. The crowd was pretty small, but it didn’t seem to bother the band, as they ripped through their set, banging on trash cans, and singing as if it was the last song they would ever play again. By the end of the set, i think it was safe to say they had won over the crowd. Despite the small attendance, the singer told me after the show that they love playing shows like that, particularly with the unique layout at Zodiac. This was a show where had it been packed, i definitely could have seen it get a bit out of control. Look for their full length next year. (get an mp3 here)
