Here are some great songs that have been filling up my inbox lately:

Sally Shapiro – Time to Let Go (CFCF Remix)
You had me at Shapiro. I can’t help but love anything that comes from her, remix or not. The first thing i thought when i heard this song was “What madonna song does this sound exactly like?” , then Marisa (our Name That Tune expert here at QLP) confirmed it is indeed very “Borderline”…which isn’t a bad thing. Early Madonna was the best madonna, imo. This song comes off of Remix Romance Vol. 2, which is the first digital -only release from Paper Bag Records. Buy it here for only $9.99.

Calico Horse – Happy Placebo Syringe Day
Next time i am walking home, here in baltimore, and see a syringe laying in the middle of the alley (true story) i will try and think of this oddly-happy song instead of “what type of terminal diseases could i possibly get if i would have accidentally stepped on that?”. Similarly in this song, the lyrics are dark, but the bouncy piano line can’t help but make you think whoever is singing the line “we lay side by side in wooden boxes” is pretty damned content. This song comes off of Calico Horse’s upcoming album, Mirror. BONUS – Their great cover of one of my favorite Radiohead songs, “Idioteque”.

PAS/CAL – You Were Too Old For Me
Another sad lyrics/happy music song. As they always say “timing is everything”, and I have found in relationships that almost always to be true. Either this song is about a broken up relationship or a crush on someone that will never be. Either way, we can all honestly say “we’ve been there”. There is actually a wiki on “Unrequited Love”, which i find funny, but is right on:

Unrequited love is love that is not openly reciprocated, even though reciprocation is usually deeply desired. The beloved may not even be aware of this person’s deep feelings for them. This can lead to feelings such as depression, low self-esteem, anxiety, and rapid mood swings between depression and euphoria.

That about sums it up, *sigh*. This is off of PAS/CAL’s upcoming album I Was Raised on Matthew, Mark, Luke & Laura, which comes out July 22nd.
