Mp3 Inbox: The Danks, Asteroids Galaxy Tour, Anya Marina
Here is some recent stuff that has landed in our inbox and caught our ear:
The Danks – Treaty Connector (MP3)
This song starts off with drums that remind me of Devo’s Whip It, then the guitar comes in and I hear what sounds like Clap Your Hands, then both are dropped out and the vocals come in and remind me of The Strokes mixed with a not-as-screaming-my-lungs-out Walkmen. Put it all together and it’s a refreshing, yet recognizable and comfortable tune. Like old sneakers with new insoles.
The Danks – I Mean, Come On (MP3)
This song reminds me even more of The Strokes. Only less produced and more intimate, which is always what kind of turned me off to The Strokes. Minimal accoustic guitars and drumming really allows for the vocals to shine on this gem, off of their debut EP, Samples (out Nov. 4th)
The Asteroids Galaxy Tour – The Sun Ain’t Shining No More (MP3)
Seems like an appropriate song considering come this sunday I am not sure i will see much sunshine for a while. Stupid daylight savings time. Despite the title of the song, the music is actually quite bright, almost sounding a bit doo-wop. The lyrics…not so much: person gets dumped…lack of figurative sunshine ensues. We’ve all been there. This is off the Copenhagen bands debut EP, Around the Bend (out Oct. 28th)

Anya Marina – Move You (MP3)
This song seems more appropriate for the lack of sunshine we are about to see. It starts off with a moody guitar line and slow breathy opening verse accompanied by a cello…that is until the drums kick in and instantly inject a jumpy beat to it, totally changing the feel of the song (in a good way); giving it a playful feel, so when she repeats “i wanna move you…move you…around” it almost seems like a kids game of hide and seek. This is off her sophomore album, Slow & Steady Seduction, Phase II, which Spoon’s Britt Daniel helped produce and is out December 9th.
