I am admittedly not a big hip hop fan.  Even if it’s “indie hip hop”, but there is something about Mos Def that I always seem to enjoy.  Take this track for example, his rapping has a flow that is kind of lulling, and the music itself is mixed up with a great variety of genres, from disco to 70’s lounge to funk.  Really keeps things interesting.  Plus I love those disco keys in there, what can i say…i’m a sucker.  Great horns too.

This is off his well received new album The Ecstatic! and starting July 7th, is also available in quite a unique format:  as part of a t-shirt.

Bonus:  Here is him doing “Quiet Dog”, also off the new album, on letterman.  Impressive that he can play the drums and rap at the same time, even if the drumming is minimal.
