Exactly three years ago I posted the first Mobtown Mix, and the 4 readers I had (hi mom!) at the time loved it. 30 mixes and more post-punk bands than I can remember later, things are so much more cutting edge now…or are they?

For this mix, in commemoration for the 30th mix and three year Mobtown Mix anniversary, I went through all of the previous mixes and picked out the best songs off each mix. I tried to keep it up-tempo and chronological by album release date, but some mixes were themed (valentines day, 4th of july, claps), so there are some slower songs in here to give you a breather. Songs are in order of what mix they were on.

There were a lot of other great songs on the mixes, but I was trying to keep some sort of cohesion to this mix, so when it came to it i probably picked the dancier songs over the cry-in-your-beer ones. As much as i love cry in your beer songs (sorry Ryan Adams).

Side note: Brent made a good point by asking “are these really the best songs from each month?”…which made me think. When i started these mixes, it was meant to be a monthly dance mix featuring the latest, what i call, “indie singles”. As the years went on we expanded it to include anything and everything. So while these might have been my favorite singles at the moment, they might not have, and usually weren’t, even on my favorite albums at the time. Translation: Don’t over analyze the “best of” name, just enjoy.
