When Her Space Holiday first came out with 2003’s The Young Machines, his sad computer accompanied songs fit right in with my Elliott Smith/Postal Service obsession at the time and I was instantly a fan. Unfortunately, the next album was more of the same and i lost the taste for the direction Marc Bianchi was going, which seemed to be more and more into an abyss.

 

So when I got an email about his new album, XOXO, Panda And The New Kid Revival, I was pleasantly surprised to hear that the sad-sap had, quite literally, been replaced with happy-claps on the new song “Sleepy Tiger”. Seems he has replaced his computer music with all kinds of instruments with cool names like glockenspiel and turned that frown upside down; so when he sings “In an hour when the sun comes up\We’re gonna put on our shoes we’re gonna shake the dust\Open the door with your brand new key\ We won’t be afraid of being sweet” it seems he means it quite literally.

 

I haven’t listened to the whole album, but this song is really good stuff, so I will definitely be checking out the whole album. Based on the cover, it seems Marc’s recently been to a Dan Deacon show. You can stream the entire album HERE, or buy it here.
