Good P4K Feature: The Decade in Indie

Bring up anything pitchfork-related among a group of music fans and your likely to get a pretty mixed bag of love and hatred.  I guess i tend to me more in the middle of the group.  I sometimes agree with their reviews, and sometimes absolutely disagree with them.  In all honesty though, i hardly  ever come remotely close to reading an entire one, as they’re usually pretty masturbatory in their verbosity (think Tarantino’s dialogue scenes).  Same goes for most of their feature stories.

So it was somewhat surprising when i found myself reading, and actually enjoying their latest feature titled “The Decade in Indie”.  Of course the title caught my interest…but the writing, and observations themselves kept me reading to the point where before i knew it i had finished the 3,400 word article (nothing short of a modern day miracle in this short-and-sweet blog-centric era).  I was going to try and quote some parts of the story here, but i just don’t think it would do it justice.

I will say it’s more than the title suggests, more of a feature on just what is indie anyways these days, and where did it come from, and where does it go from here.  It’s all well thought out, and honestly, while i don’t agree with all of it, it could probably be applied to any era in music history.  The most surprising part, is i found it such a good read that i am spending this much time actually writing a post about it.  Just go read it.
