Friday Night Lights/ Explosions in the Sky/ Heartless Bastards
What do these all have in common? Just my current obsession with Friday Night Lights. It’s been on for a while but I’m just getting into it now. One of the things that makes the show is the soundtrack done by Explosions in the Sky. And I had heard this before, but I didn’t really get how well the music went with the show until watching a few episodes. The behind the shoulder Michael Mann doc style filming style mixed in with slow motion football shots and the instrospective Explosions music are a great mix.
The third part of this equation is heartless bastards. After really digging into the latest album with “The Mountain” I ran across their sophomore effort at the local cd shop. It’s really a great album, a little top heavy, but that could just be because I haven’t really gotten to listen to the second half as much as the first. This could also be because I can’t get past the great title track “All this time”. Her voice is amazing to me, one of the best female rock’n roll voices I have heard in a long time. And they just happened to play this on the show as well.
Heartless Bastards “All this time”
On a sidenote – you can hear the entire sxsw 2009 concert of Heartless Bastards on npr right now along with many others.
