Cocorosie consists of two sisters that are part of the New Weird America Movement. This movement, also known as Freak Folk, harkens back to psychedlic rock groups of the 1960′s and and ’70s, which was part of Bob Dylan’s influence amongst others. Another influence of New Weird America would be Roky Erikson who will also be at Coachella. Other bands that are part of this new Psychedelic Folk movement are Animal Collective, Joanna Newsome, Brightblack Morning Light, Iron & Wine and Devendra Banhart. None of these groups associate themselves with this movement, New Weird America is more a term that has been used by the media to define this genre.

Moving on, Cocorosie consists of one sister, Sierra, who sings backup, plays guitar, harp and piano and the other sister, Bianca who uses toys, electronic instruments, and other percussion.
