Chemical Brothers “Midnight Madness” Video = F’in Scary

I’m not sure what I just watched, some troll in a disco costume that emerges out of a dumpster and breaks into an empty warehouse because he wants to dance!. Is this some kind of metaphor for the current state of Trance Electronic music? I actually had King Khan & The Shrines “Land of the Freak” on while It was playing (which actually went pretty well with it), so I have no comments about the song as of right now, but the video itself is pretty crazy, and pretty awesome. I can’t tell if that guy is on some ropes or actually doing those acrobatics… and if there is any cgi fakery going on, it’s really hard to tell. The part where he just drops to the ground and then gets up and his head is backwards shivered me timbers (and by timbers.. I mean balls.. what?)

UPDATE:

Ok, listened to the song and it’s pretty good. If I heard this in a club I would probably want to dance badly to it. Another thing I noticed.. how does he miss the swinging disco ball with his feet. I would say they just filmed it a ton of times till he/she got it right (or got lucky) but the camera shots in this video are long, so maybe the troll is just that awesome.  I would love to see a behind the scenes on this video.

  1. “Is this some kind of metaphor for the current state of Trance music?”

Chemical Brothers have never been Trance; they are Big Beat. Trance music is Paul van Dyke, Ferry Corsten, Armin van Buren, etc. It’s crap that is just as well ignored.

  2. I don’t know, the chemical brothers definitely aren’t just trance, but they have a lot of trancey elements in their music. I think your taking this to seriously and missing the point. The post doesn’t say the chemical brothers are trance, just poses a question about the current state of trance music. Maybe you are an uber fan and don’t enjoy trance music, and are offended I lumped them in with trance. Maybe I should have said “is this a metaphor for the current state of dance music?”.. is that better? Plus if you google Chemical Bros. and Trance, you get about a million hits that think differently than you do. Really, does it matter?

  4. Well excuse my “lazy” blogging. I always thought lazy would be not having a blog, not posting about this video, and not commenting on it… but I guess you proved me wrong. Well I’m not afraid to admit my mistakes, ok Chemical brothers is not trance music… excuse my limited genre lexicon. Now, does anyone have any comments on the actual video?
