Artist to Watch: Amanda Zelina

amanda-zelina1

Amanda Zelina’s song  “Obsessed” pulls off the rare success of being both simple and extremely catchy.  And even though this is the only song i have heard from the 23 yr old from Toronto, if she keeps putting out gems like this there is no knowing where she might end up.  iPod commercial?  Highly likely – she does slightly remind me of Feist and Lily Allen.

I can’t vouch for the rest of the songs off her upcoming album Love Me Till I’m Me Again, but based on this song i will definitely be looking out for it.  She also says she has major influences from Ray LaMontagne and Ryan Adams, which certainly perks my ears up…i’m a sucker for those two, especially the later.  Amanda is working on a record deal so the release date is TBD, but i will let you know as soon as i do.

Amanda Zelina – Obsessed (MP3)

“Obsessed” starts off with simple hand claps followed with a plodding organ line that perfectly blends with the nursery-rhyme-esque simplicity of the vocals.  It’s a love story…shocker…that at some points can veer into near over-dramatic territory before turning back to the catchy chorus.  The song ends with some over-dubbing of the vocals, creating  more atmosphere and adding a touch of playfulness that alleviates the fear of any stalking from Miss Zelina.
