Around the Horn: Now, Now Every Children\Jon McKiel
Like we said, been getting a lot of great stuff in our in-box lately, here are a couple of our favorites:
Now, Now Every Children – Not One, But Two (MP3)
Wonder if the song title refers to the bands love of commas? I know, I’m so funny. Actually it refers to the number of EP’s they plan to release before their LP comes out in May. This song is right up my alley: minimal xylophone, soft and fragile female vocals, minimal drums and guitar…then it finally exhales with driving guitar and bass lines. The entire song keeps building up until it seemingly falls off a cliff. Pick up the EP here.
Jon McKiel – War On You (MP3)
I realize with every mention of the Counting Crows on here we are losing major respect points, but i SWEAR there was a time when the Counting Crows put out songs that made you want to drink…heavily. Unfortunately now they sing about parking lots or some shit. My point? This song reminds me of that old-school Counting Crows, mixed with a light dose of Okkervil River. Seriously. And the Canadian rocker is #1 on the eMusic.com charts, not that charts mean anything anyways. Just sayin’. After listening to the whole album here, i have to say…it’s pretty solid.
