So it seems that more and more Merriweather Post Pavilion is booking some great indie acts (Animal Collective, Death Cab, The National), which is great, since seeing said bands in an outdoor setting can truly make for a unique and memorable show (coachella anyone?). One show that’s sure to be memorable is the My Morning Jacket/Neko Case show on August 12th. I mean, My Morning Jacket alone is known for their great live sets (exhibit A); add in Neko Case and its a show that i can’t justify missing.
Thankfully we will be able to help out one lucky reader (and a guest) attend the MMMJ/Neko Case show for free. To enter, just email us with the subject “MMJ Giveaway” and we will randomly select a winner next Wednesday (8/10). All entries are due no later than 11:59PM on Tuesday, August 9th. Please, only one entry per person.
UPDATE: We have randomly picked our winner and they have been notified. thanks for entering and stay tune for more cool giveaways and posts.
Here is a song off a solo album from Grizzly Bear’s Chris Taylor (the bass player, amongst other things). The thing is, I don’t hear any Grizzly Bear in this song, it’s completely opposite of that, very atmospheric and actually a bit dancey. The album is called Dreams Come True (really?) and is out Sept. 13th.
The new video for the Budos Band’s “Unbroken, Unshaven” is a mix between Fear and Loathing, Big Lebowski, and Clint Eastwood….and it’s SWEET. If you don’t own Budos Band’s latest III, get on it, you won’t be disappointed.
Maybe it’s my “slight” tendency towards synthesizer dance tracks, but i’ve always enjoyed VHS or Beta. Sure, they’re not exactly Radiohead in the groundbreaking territory, but i don’t think they intend to be either. It’s just fun, catchy music with some great rhythm and pulsing synth lines that induce a good amount of foot tapping and head bobbing.
Their new single, “Breaking Bones”, is more of just that and it comes off of their upcoming third album Diamonds and Death (EXTREME!). It’s worth noting that this bands mid-afternoon set at coachella a couple years back actually got the crowd dancing despite the ridiculous heat…no easy feat, and i’m sure this song would do the same.
Sidenote: this line on their PR email cracks me up “The songs unfold and mutate in unpredictable ways that will transfix dance floors and bedrooms alike.” Can bedrooms really be transfixed? oh, you meant sex. gotcha.
Couldn’t be happier for Wye Oak who made their network television debut last night on Jimmy Fallon. Seems like forever ago we were blown away by this small two-piece who called themselves Monarch. Can’t wait to see what’s ahead for them.
