Free Yeasayer Download

ye

Yeasayer is offering their first single, “Ambling Alp”, off their forthcoming album Odd Blood (out in 2010).  I always liked their first album, even though i don’t think it was as good live, and i think they got overshadowed by releasing that album around the same time as MGMT (and touring with them) back in 2007/2008.  This song sounds just as layerd, semi-psychadelic, and catchy as the songs off that debut album…so I am definitely looking forward to this new one.  Plus i love the singers voice…unique, but not annoying, which isn’t easily acheived.  Interesting they’ve added brass to this song, i would love to see them tour with a whole horn section.

Junior Boys Tonight @ Sonar

junior boys

The Junior Boys are here to start your Halloween weekend off right with what’s sure to a be a dancer-ific set at Sonar.  I have seen them twice this year and can attest to their downtempo-shake-your-feet goodness.  Of course this being baltimore…i am always weary of if an actual crowd will show up (i mean lcd soundsystem was half full a couple years back), so hopefully people stop by.  Junior boys are definitely a more the merrier affair.  Anyone up for some drinks before hand?

Check out my pics of their show in DC here.

Google Adds Music Streaming to Search Results

ms2

SO when you search a band/song/album etc. on google, you will also be presented with a play button to preview or listen to song from the band and/or album. Good start, will be interesting to see how far google takes this.

Just in time for halloween, here’s Sea Wolf’s costume-rific video for Wicked Blood (why exactly hasn’t this album gotten reviewed by P4K yet?).  And i think i just found my halloween costume.  Two words:   Austonaut-Monster.

Review: Sea Wolf, Port O’Brien, Sara Lov @ Talking Head 10/18/09

SeaWolf_1

This past sunday i headed down to The Talking Head to check out Sea Wolf and was surprised with a couple solid opening sets by Port O’Brien and Sara Lov.  The night started out a bit delayed as the sound check was still going on well after doors were supposed to be opened, so the crowd just hung out in the lovely talking head alley in hopes of staying out of the way of whatever death metal fest was going on next door at sonar.

Good Friday Music: Honey Claws

featurearticlehorz3

I’m kind of pissed i let this EP from Honey Claws sit on my table for months.  I guess it’s good music for any day, but it certainly lends itself better to a day that ushers in good things.  Honey Claws are from Austin, TX who’s goal was “to create not only a sound but also a movement based on positive vibes and cosmic carpet rides. Lost in translation but stamped nonetheless; what emerged was electric punk lyrical katana blade ninjary with a smile. Honey Claws.”

umm…ok.  These are off of their EP Healer, which was released this past april.

Entrance Band Set on Blip.TV

I can’t speak highly enough about Guy Blakeslee and the Entrance Band, a lot of people might toss them aside as being nothing more than a pyschedelic jam band, but I really don’t see many bands doing this type of thing this well these days. Either a band jams out too much, doesn’t keep it interesting, and doesn’t have the talent on the guitars, or they hold back too much and just stick to the 3 minute song. I think The Entrance, and the Entrance Band, find a good middle ground and Blakeslee knows how to just wail on guitar and vocals. The music was great when it was just Blakeslee, but now that he has a very talented dedicated trio together, it’s even better.. think a more modern Band of Gypsys.

Although I must warn you, do not watch the interview. Blakeslee should just play guitar and not talk about his beliefs, energy fields, and how cynicism is a disease. A little long-winded.

The rest after the jump.

LCD Soundsystem: Free DL’d of “Bye Bye Bayou” Cover

bbbayou-thmbI realize this has been all over the interwebs, but now you can dl’d it legally over at lcd’s website.  Good stuff (goes without saying?)

Download “Bye Bye Bayou” HERE.

James says:

well, bye bye bayou totally leaked everywhere, which shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, since anything that exists is essentially all over the internet in 5 minutes—but it wasn’t actually supposed to come out until november 7th (that indie store vinyl day), so we’ve asked and parlophone have given us 20,000 free downloads to give away
