NIN Video: “1,000,000″ Live

Sweet video, no matter the quality of his latest albums, dude can punch you in the face with his live show.  Some interesting things in this video:  it’s funny seeing trent play a tambourine and, being a photography junky, it’s amazing this entire thing was shot on a Canon 5D. (via p4k)

Say Hi “Oohs & Ahhhs”

One of my favorite bands over the past couple years has been Say Hi. Eric Elbogen’s consistently good songwriting, creating these perfect little indie pop/rock gems, never ceases to amaze me. I can’t always explain why the songs are so catchy, but he has the formula down (if there is a formula).

Over the past week the new album has hooked me just as much as the previous. There weren’t immediate hooks on this one like the previous Wishes & The Glitch (which we had in our top ten a couple years ago), but after 3 listens I can say that it is just as infectious.  There seems to be a little more of a layered instrumentation on this album, a little bit more rock, a little less synth (but it’s still there). The drums are great, and there are even horns, as you will here on the second single released off of this new album, Oohs & Aahs, the first album since signing with Barsuk.

New Harlem Shakes “Strictly Game”

Great new song from the Harlem Shakes, very upbeat and joyous with a infectious driving drumbeat. It’s loose enough to not be boring and tight enough to keep your ears from trailing off. The vocals are a bit nasally, but nowhere near the clogged septum of Clap Your Hands.  The new album Technicolor Health comes out March 24th.

New Royksopp Vids/ Old Royksopp Vids

The main point of this post is to just point out how great Royksopp vids are. After watching the newest one for their latest “Happy Up Here” single, it brought back some memories of their really great videos of the past. The music ain’t too shabby either. I always thought bjork and radiohead had some of the best vids, but these rank right up there (“remind me” is still my favorite).

Like Junior Boys? Check out Jensen Sportag

This Jensen Sportag song really reminds me of a more upbeat, flamboyant (?) version of some Junior Boys tracks (think George Michael).  Pretty electro-disco and unabashedly upbeat, retro and fun.  This is off their Jackie EP, wich comes out March 3rd, and will include of remix from the upcoming Junior Boys’ tour mate:  Max Tundra.  It all comes full circle doesn’t it?

They describe the track as “lyrically fashioned after the american girl tribute song. i.e: Oh Sheila, Joanna, Sussudio etc.” Sounds about right.

Did i seriously just read these guys are from Nashville?  Wow…must be hard playing this kind of stuff in the country music epicenter.

New Holler Wild Rose “Peace Lily”

It’s been too long since I’ve heard new Holler Wild Rose after the excellent debut that came out a couple years ago. It was one of the surprises of the year, with music rich with layers and vocals that seem to have come Jeff Buckley’s offspring.  Unfortunately we don’t have a full new LP to listen to by the band, but their is a new EP coming out titled Yarn.  Here is the first track off of it.

Dear BGE,

I just want to show you my appreciation for the scheduled power outage you had last night between 10pm and 6am. Not only was it perfect timing, for it was during one of the coldest days of the year, I had a shit ton of work to do, oh.. and the oscars were on. Now I don’t know exactly why it takes 8 hours for you to do maintenance on something that was already working fine, but when you say it is going to be back on at 6am and I wake up in a freezing apartment with no hot water at 6 am, that’s pretty shitty. And then when I go back to sleep, because it’s too cold to do anything else, and then wake up again at 8am with still  no electricity, that is just f’ed up.  It feels great to be a work, smelly and angry.  Your awesome bge… keep up the great work and keep charging me an fload of money for the electricity in my amll ass one bedroom apartment. Oh, and maybe next time you should schedule your maintenance for a more convenient time. Like, maybe when EVERYONE IS AT WORK… or maybe DON’T MAKE IT 10 HOURS LONG.  FML.

New Song From The Veils: “Killed By The Boom”

Photobucket

This is off The Veils’ upcoming album Sun Gangs (out april 7th) and man is it intense.  I wasn’t as much of a fan of their last album, but always loved their first one, The Runaway Found.  This song might be an acquired taste…as i’m still on the fence…but leaning in the yea direction.
